Impossible Secularism

During last election in my state, everyone is fully aware what happens during election, a very typical election environment is being made by candidates contesting, one can see announcements exaggerating candidates or party work, esp. one can point out so many banners, big banners in which you must have pointed out two things.
First how the candidate posed for the picture they used in that banner, in which you will always find she/he is standing with her/his hands joined always giving you respect and second they will always try to depict themselves as secular.
So during election, I met this candidate who really was ahead from all other candidates in showing secularism. What I saw, he got all those signs printed in his banner depicting religions, like Om…..holy cross….786…..swastik.
Therefore, it provoked me to find this guy and meet him. Later I found him and during formal discussions I asked him- why you used all these signs? What you want to show?
Hearing me asking question in his comfort zone he bragged upon it and answered- I am secular and I respect every religion, I am fully unbiased towards anyone on account of religion.
A typical political answer, can’t expect anything extravagant from these politicians. I simply replied him that you answered very politely and politically but did you ever gave any extra thought about secularism which you use in your every next speech. Did you ever felt that you can really explain it in its pure form.
Similarly, if you follow the same principle towards non-alignment of any particular group which has been one of the core strategy mentioned in India’s foreign policy  and is a paradigm of secularism….will face a very strange situation during war between two countries. We have to show equal commitment towards both, and in order to achieve it, we will send our armed forces to both countries, than what will happen, we will be in a catch 22 situation where we will only loose.
Therefore to avoid such a tragic situation, we followed a more practical and easier way i.e. to remain neutral towards anyone and not to show inclination towards any. It’s relatively far more easy isn’t it. Then why you changed the meaning in politics and moreover what message you are actually spreading in society.
He answered casually- I know enough of secularism and I also know what I am doing as I am not doing anything wrong.
Hearing this guy reply I involuntarily replied to him- don’t you think how much turbulence is being created by one single religion and you want to use all of them. Do you want see a star beginning his life journey or you want to see ending its life in a black hole.
After this conversation during my thought process, all these things made me really worried that we are living behind a smoke screen of secularism which is turning humanity blind; we all are really unaware of trueness of this word. Therefore we as a Factincept team decided to again describe secularism in its true form, so that everyone can be aware of secularism in its true sense.
First of all one must have to be clear that “secular” isn’t an indigenous word, it came from outside which evolved because certain conditions forced it to develop, and the meaning it got there changed drastically during its journey to India. Secular word was first used by a British writer named George Jacob Holeyoke, 160 years ago to make free, social political decisions from control of religion, he further explained it that in our daily life while addressing any issue one can be unbiased only if she/he will be neutral towards every religion otherwise decisions can go far away from reality.
One more thing need to be mentioned here that George Jacob to, isn’t the first person who gave this fresh concept, infact the sentiment came during the Europe renaissance years when every common man life was being controlled by religion. Every decision on any issue was religiously biased because of which there was a stall in growth of society in every aspect. Therefore to come out from this receding situation secularism evolved. Now let us find out how it re-formed in India.
During independence when India & Pakistan divided in two separate countries, a question arised that whether India will adopt any state religion or not, therefore, to make political arrangement Indian National Congress used this word secular, later it also got mentioned in Indian Constitution but in what meaning? It was mentioned that while being in a state of tolerance we must respect all religion and treat every religion equally.
Just think, how amazingly the meaning got twisted during its journey from Europe to India. Why because, we are too much religion biased country, and in earlier times too phrases like “Sarvadharm Sambhaav” was used to tranquilize social hatred towards each other’s religion & later secular and sarvdharm sambhav became synonyms for each other. But in doing so we planted the seed for all the problems for future for the simple reason because how secularism got defined in India, it defeated its real sense not only partially but fully.
If you dig out the meaning of sardharm sambhav u will find it explains you, to have same feeling or in other words same sentiment for every religion. Now just concentrate on what we are saying since it says to have same feeling, means feelings can be in form of respect or it can be of disrespect, also it can be of “Neutrality” and if you arrange these three in an order you will find- respect is one step ahead of being neutral and disrespect is a step down.
Therefore what secularism tells you is to be neutral towards anything it do not tells you to respect or disrespect.
For example let me explain-
If suppose I am in neutral state, than if anyone comes in front of me than simply I will greet that person and will attain the same state as earlier, so that there will not be any effect on me by that person’s presence. Like this I never disrespected or respected that person and in turn there wasn’t any effect on me too.
Remember still majority of people will not except this explanation but you must keep in your mind that if 10 million people adopts any fact in a false manner, it doesn’t mean that false will turn to true,  it has to remain false. Like for an example when, earlier people thought that earth is stationary and sun rotates around earth. But later it proved totally false. This belief was even mentioned in the old testament of bible against which nobody dared to go and those who went they got knocked down. You see it depends on the intelligentsia of society that how fast they can adopt trueness of any false belief. And as far as Indian intelligentsia is concerned we don’t want to comment on it. Like an ugly person who never wants to see one’s face in mirror, the same apply to most of these people they simply don’t want to realize the truth.
One may feel that we are getting too harsh with our sentences but the question is why can’t you question their intelligence if they can be fooled by others so easily, by merely calling a fool clever, can you expect him to act like a clever, no you can’t. We don’t like to split milk around corners, if it would have helped we would have never raised any question. We keep it really simple and straight.
You have noticed our topic which says “Impossible Secularism”, question arises here that is it really an impossible thing to achieve. But first let’s understand the reason behind its being impossible.
Let me start it from practical psychology, if any one view through practical psychology, which we are anyone can, by using one’s simple common sense, which says anyone gets most of its behavior encultrated in one’s childhood only, which excels her/his behavior through her/his entire life during which one faces different kind of situations, different kind of incidents, issues and sometime one has to take important decisions to. These all things are governed by encultration of childhood.
Have you ever noticed that most complex actions of anyone’s brain are involuntary but they never goes beyond control as the moment involuntary becomes uncontrollable the person will be in a fully perplexed state, ending in a certain maniac situation. And those involuntary actions are affected by childhood encultration. Give some thought on this and you will realize yourself.
One can further understand by a simple example- if suppose you take a road for your daily commuting on which in between there is a big pothole. First time you will avoid in your full consciousness or may be second time too but with time, you will automatically develop a habit of avoiding that pothole unconsciously and you will not even notice.
How it happens? It’s very simple. It’s all about adoption and the same way you adopts in your childhood therefore one thing you need to be clear of yourself that you can’t practice two full different sets of encultrations at a time, you have to leave one to practice other if you want to practice at same level. And talking about religion, they goes deep down within us even affecting our body metabolism, which is a worst situation to be in.
Overall what we are saying if a Hindu says he is Hindu, he is Muslim, he is Christian in the same ratio, or if a Muslim says he is Muslim, he is Hindu, he is Sikh in the same ratio than they are incorrect on any level as it’s almost impossible to achieve it. And if anyone says she/he can’t manage various religion equally but she/he never disrespected other religion than also its defeating the purpose of secularism or if she/he says I can’t mange various religion equally but I give respect to every other religion than also its defeating the purpose of secularism. Therefore all these shows we are living inside a smoke screen of secularism because if it would have become possible the concept of brainwash wouldn’t have worked.
You must have noticed the point very far in azimuth where it seems like earth and sky meets but everyone knows it’s a mere appearance, and the same applies here. If you want to get feel of actual secularism you need to again think deeply and relatively to make yourself understand how it works? Than only one can think to attain secularism in its pure form but the problem lies with those hypocrites who don’t want society to move ahead because it demeans those people and these hypocrites are in bulk in Indian society, who are always ready to impost dictum whenever anyone talks something radical, in turn bringing the state of stagnation.
Now talking about options than we need to say there are no options present from which you can choose from, you have to make options yourself like in earlier times one was unable to find road to travel from one destination to other but with time man has developed things accordingly changed. Some bravehearts reached the peak of Everest which in earlier times seemed almost impossible to many people.
The same way you can take secularism ahead, if we start today with full dedication we can achieve it to some extent may be after 50 years and to be effective almost fully it requires atleast a century. Initially you may find it very difficult to take it further even one step, you may even get demoralize you may even feel that it’s not effective at all, but you will find that with time the sapling you planted has grown up into a tree may be small but its fragrance is really refreshing which slowly and steadily will attract everyone and will make them to see the brightness behind the truth while increasing the sanity and beauty in the society.
Than the last word we can say -Voila.
