Live Nostalgia 

Nostalgic memories   "Strolling down the memory lane,
      Mirages do not seem so strange.
       Trails of nostalgia stay engraved,
         In the happiness, I once embraced."

These lines depict how much we enjoy our nostalgic memories. We dive in our golden memories recalling the happiest moments in our life and beg time to return to those days. We simply love swimming in nostalgic memories. Nostalgia can be anything, like for example - experiences related to a movie, having a good timeout with friends or family, enjoyment of favourite dish, earlier belongings or related to some objects etc.

However, for science nostalgia has not been as beautiful as for us. Normally we pick our golden moments while being nostalgic which make us feel full of pleasure due to our adaptive nature of moving towards positive direction, but nostalgia is not only about being happy.

During 16th, 17th and 18th century nostalgia was considered as an undesirable condition, with adverse effects on our mind. It was counted as a neurological disorder representing homesickness. Even till 19th century it was considered as a state which halts development of brain. It was only in 21st century after researches and theories put out by the researchers changed the concept of dealing nostalgia in a positive direction.

Nostalgia is referred to longing of past, a yearning for yesterday or a fondness of our early days. A Standard Life study suggests 28 to 40-years-old normally do not plan future because they prefer to reminisce about olden days. Now researchers are recognizing nostalgia beneficial for psychological well being because we recall only positive moments of our life. We make ourselves happy while being in a state of nostalgia. Several benefits of nostalgia are now recognized.
1) It increases confidence and trust when we recall a meaningful or a sentimental event of past.
2) It increases happiness in our life.

3) We feel less worried about our present like for example, regarding our acceptance or rejection by our colleagues or mates.

4) Improvement in our attitude.

3) Positive perception towards self.

6) It promotes the development of belongingness.

7) It boosts our mood.

8) Out of all the above mentioned benefits, the most interesting benefit we get from nostalgia is inclination towards charity. When people feel nostalgic, a motivation to accommodate the need of other individual generates which translates their feelings towards charity.


What leads us to nostalgia?


'Reminiscence bump' is the phenomenon, which leads us towards nostalgia. Adults of all ages go through this phenomenon remembering the past years of youthfulness and agility. Our brain generates strong and clear images of past, which help us recalling all the golden times of our life. Usually we recall the period of 15 to 30.
When we become nostalgic?

Generally, every negative thought triggers nostalgia. It is our tendency to move towards reconciliation, therefore, whenever our mood elevates towards negativity we start becoming nostalgic.

We also turn towards nostalgia, when we become psychologically unstable or feel threatened.


Today nostalgia is also generating business. People search for classy things. There are several remakes of old movies. We love drinking in classy designed cans. Fashion industry is taking a return to looks of 90s. It shows that not only in our personal thinking but in practical life too we have started living in nostalgia. There are several market researches on nostalgic marketing by companies to promote their old fashioned products.

Nostalgia has emerged as a whole new theory of positivity. It is now considered as a self psychological treatment. The only problem it causes that sometimes it leads to daydreaming. If we can avoid the situation of daydreaming, we can heal our psychological behavior anytime by moving towards nostalgia.
