Two lines from a poem I recently read, forced me to think over its validity. And when I spent few moments on it I amazingly found it, timeless. These lines are totally veritable today and also they had been the same, centuries ago in same ratio. In the poem these lines are a direct question to, teachers and people in charge of culture etc. It asks that,

“Why you teach to speak truth, when you can’t tolerate it.”

Many of us can think it to be absurd, for them it is hard to believe that same person who is teaching to speak truth can’t tolerate if someone speaks truth. But it is a fact. When I witnessed history thoroughly, I found this is not the first time this question has been asked to society, teachers, preachers and leaders. There is a long list of victims, who followed their teachings and suffered throughout the life.

The factor behind it I found in the quote of some unknown intellectual. He said that, “It's hard to accept the truth when the lies were exactly what you wanted to hear.”

Though it is not the only reason, but it shares a fare part of the reason. We all can observe the fact that, everyone like people of same mentality. We love people who think in same manner as we think. A single deviation from our core belief is enough to initiate rage and spark of anger inside us. In response we can go to any extent, which will be directly proportional to association of that thought and our ‘ego’.

‘Jesus’ asked the same question from the cross. ‘Mahavira’ asked the same question when he was stoned. And same is the story of so many saints who dared to spoke truth. What happened with ‘Jesus’ we all know, same has happen with many about whom we do not know. Sufi mystic Mansur is from this unknown list.

“Mansur was sentenced to be hanged for saying, "I am the Truth (God)" that is, claiming that he was at one with the Lord.

Being rebuked for this and told to say instead, "He is the Truth."

Mansur replied, “Yes, He is all, but you say He is lost. Mansur is lost; the drop has disappeared, but the ocean remains as it was."

It was decided that he should be stoned before he was taken to the gallows. The Saint was therefore dragged out into the public square, and everyone who so wished, threw stones at him. Mansur suffered all of this in silence.

Then, one of his friend ‘Shibli’, who was also a saint in order to show compassion, and at the same time to test Mansur, threw a flower. When it struck, Mansur winced and cried aloud in pain.
