“Just as treasures are uncovered
from the earth, so virtue appears from good deeds, and wisdom appears
from a pure and peaceful mind. To walk safely through the maze of human
life, one needs the light of wisdom and the guidance of virtue.” ---------Buddha
There is no spiritual scripture, no religious text, no religious preacher and no spiritual master, who do not have spoken about importance of being good and good deeds.
‘Virtue and virtuous character is foundation of every religious and spiritual ideology.’
Many times, it has been told that, doing good is everything, after this you do not need to pray even as it is prayer in itself. Jesus, Buddha, Mahavira etc. all preached about this only. It is the base of every spiritual teaching. Whole life they keep on hailing that,
“Do not harm, do the good deeds.”
‘Doing good’ and ‘not to harm’ might seems similar but, both are not the same. There exists a difference of degree. First, you should practice ‘not to harm’, and only after this conscious practice, you can start doing good. One may think that without learning’ not to harm’ one may practice good deeds. It is absolutely correct, but this thought is only relevant in context of worldly affairs. And calculation of this world, may not fit inside spiritual world.
Spirituality asks to do unconditional good, without expecting anything from that act. Spirituality say ‘being good’ is our true nature and that’s why if we do something good from pure heart we feel pleasure. But it is a fact that it is not easy to follow what it teaches. Thus, using our cunning mind we opt for an easy way, where we only need to pretend. We all do good things but only with expectation that in return something good will happen to us also. We are in direct business with give and take policy. In this, we reached at so ridiculous height that we have started this as a business with God. We offer him some penny and ask for job, house, happiness etc. Our every step is calculated; it is hard to understand that whom exactly we are betraying, ‘self or the creator. One humorous story points the same nature of ours....
