Life amid Negativity

Surrouded by stormProblem of evil has always been a first choice of philosopher while questioning the existence of God. It also seems true when we look around us and see our life surrounded by inequity, misery or sinful activities which can be collectively called as 'negativity'. Our life is like a boat in the ocean of negativity. As far as our eyes can see, we find endless ocean (negativity), we search for land or island, which we can say is a symbol of pleasure we wish in our life. Many times our boat is shaken by heavy thunderstorms which sometimes can be strong enough to capsize our boats, and sink our spirits. This situation is even more demoralizing when thunderstorm increases thereby increasing the influence of negativity which further increase the probability of surrendering to the situation. While suffering through such situations we focus only on ocean of negativity and often forget the boat which still exists. This is the reason and answer of facing defeat in adversity.
Yes! You could not keep your faith and hope; this is the reason of your failure. Life left you and moved ahead. Everything was adverse. There was no reason of hope, no reason of faith. You were in deep darkness. Every conditions and situations were committed to break you, but it is a fact that you lost not because of them but you lost because you did not fight. You lost because you let unhappiness cover you. It was your obligation and liability towards life, to live in hope and faith in spite of every adverse and difficult situation. You could not keep your obligation, and lost. Life itself is source of positive thinking.
Your existence on the planet earth is an obligation towards nature. Your life is an important part of this vast existence, and you must remember that even the smallest life of this nature fight with difficulties and with ruination, and never surrender easily. Every cell, every atom, every electron is full of strong wish and will of life. Human beings too were blessed with this will until they were alike other creatures, but slowly-slowly in effort to become civilized, they got deviated from basic natural instinct and started relying heavily on their mind. It made them forget that they have heart too. Brain was secondary and heart was primary but things got reversed. In this effort no doubt humanity achieved a lot, but it is also true that we paid a big price for the same. Within the things we lost – is the capability to understand the cost of precious life. We easily give our life in hands of situations, and ironically these situations too are created by us. Due to some left essence, we fight up to a level, but finally we give-up. Only few show courage to fight till the last breath and achieve what they want to. The ultimate creation of Ernest Hemmingway 'The old man and sea' reminds the strong wish of life, never giving up.
You can easily find that wherever is life, irrespective of its form, struggles hard to keep its existence and development. This is the born instinct of every living organism, but on humans the social development has imposed a negative effect. This effect differs from person to person, that is why people individually react to situation in their own way. The stratification of social structure does not give equal opportunity for development as an individual. It resists the psychological development too, here the role of resolution and commitment starts, here the journey of hope and faith starts. It is responsible for fearless living. A famous anecdote from the life of Swami Vivekananda depicts the same hope and faith as source to come out of negativity.
"Swami Vivekananda was having a long trek in the Himalayas when he found an old man extremely exhausted standing hopelessly at the foot of an upward slope. The man said to him in frustration, 'Oh, Sir, how to cross it; I cannot walk anymore; my chest will break.'
Swami Vivekananda listened to the old man patiently and then said, 'Look down at your feet. The road that is under your feet is the road that you have passed over and is the same road that you see before you; it will soon be under your feet.'
These words emboldened the old man to resume his onward trek."
Life amid negativityThough the adversity in life and difficult situation will not change but without any doubt it will help in developing a creative way. This can be called as the art of living amid the negativity. Life is neither power nor money or influence, not it is what society and religions teach. Life goes far beyond the illusions we have created around us. Our focus and attention matters more than anything else, remember the biblical story in which Peter, who had enough faith to walk on the water towards Jesus. As long as his eyes were on Christ, he succeeded. As soon as he focused on the threatening waves, he sank. Do not confuse Jesus as God. For peter he is the only source of faith and positivism, life is like that. If our focus is on negativity and fear, our lives seem hopeless.
His name is not known but he has understood the life it seems in his words that, "Sometimes it's not the pain that makes you suffer; it's your own negative thought that makes things seem worse."
