A latest US study has revealed that female smokers have an increased risk of death from lung cancer and other illness linked to tobacco. Today women smokes more like men, and this increase in risk of fatal lung cancer and chronic obstructive lung disease (COLD), has been large enough to completely offset improvements in longevity from medical advances. Ex-vice president, of the American Cancer Society; Michael J Thun, said, "The increase in risk among female smokers has continued for decades after the serious health risks from smoking were well established."
In recent news, India has recovered about 15 kilogram heroins worth Rs 75 crore in the international market, just two days after recovering 10 kg heroin nearby the same place. Money is the important factor for these suppliers and smugglers. A UN report said, "This drug trade has a black market with capacity of generating revenue around US $321.6 billion and is dedicated to cultivation, manufacturing, distribution, and sale of illegal drugs". Most of countries have declared it as a crime, yet consumption of illegal drugs is widespread throughout the world.
First incident shows the increase in substance dependency and second shows how seriously some groups are working as catalyst to spread this dependency. Today when many global organizations through various means are working hard to reduce it, such news shows how big it has spread its roots within the society which is really an awful sign. World Drugs report as published by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for 2012, shows that about 230 million people around the world take illicit drugs, which is 1 in 20.
