Maruti Vitara Brezza - A quick review
Maruti seems to have nailed Indian market. Almost everything
they have launched went on to be a best seller in its category. Be it Wagon R,
Celerio, Swift, Swift Dzire or Baleno. I am not even mentioning Alto. Vitara
Brezza also has followed the same trend and went on to become an instant hit.
Buyers are ready to wait for several months rather moving onto different brand.
Why?
Did Maruti offered something special in the form of Vitara
Brezza or it’s just a perception factor as it has always been in the Indian
market. What are Vitara Brezza’s pros and cons and whether you must also follow
the same trend or you can act as a more mature buyer?
First is first – What is Brezza?
Brezza is just a bumped up hatchback with generous ground
clearance and some fancy roof colouring. By no means it is an SUV and if you
still want to purchase Brezza for its SUV credentials then you must be fooling
yourself.
It neither have a SUV stance nor presence and not even
performance to match; however if you will look Vitara Brezza as a smart looking
hatch then yes you are judging it perfectly.
What about looks?
- Clean and understated exterior looks somehow works for Brezza
- Head section looks elegant while tail is more like Maruti’s own S-Cross
- Side profile is the weakest angle to look at Brezza due to small proportions
- Overall length and breadth is proportionate. Maruti has done a good job to make fall most of the things in proportion.
How it is from inside?
- Black interiors are the best way to hide cost cutting
- Interior feels like it belongs to a lower category car
- Seating space and comfort is generous and leaves nothing to complain about
- To lure buyers and hide its low rent feel Maruti has offered generous amount of features on Vitara Brezza; especially on the top most ZDI+ variant
- Floating roof design, Keyless Entry, Electric ORVM, Electric backdoor opening, Start/Stop button, Cruise Control, Touch infotainment system with navigation, Auto headlamp, Auto Wipers, Multi colour instrument backlight, Projector lamps, ABS with EBD, Reverse camera with sensor are the most notable features
How it feels like driving?
- Currently Vitara Brezza is available only with Diesel option; Petrol is on its way, might hit market soon
- Same, old Fiat sourced engine tuned to produce 200Nm of torque and 75 BHP power
- Turbolag is prominent as in the case of every other diesel Maruti car
- City or low speed driving will require frequent gear shifts
- Engine does its duty in a neutral manner, nothing exciting
- Steering feedback is just about adequate
- Ride quality is fantastic and is typical Maruti
- Riding dynamics again are just about adequate
- NVH levels are well within control
Why Vitara Brezza?
As what we have learnt from above review – Maruti’s Vitara
Brezza does not excel in any department. It does not bring anything new to the
table nor is anything implanted by Maruti which can excite anyone. Then why there
is so much demand for Brezza?
Maruti in true sense nailed the position of its product. It
is priced from Rs 6.99 lacs to all the way to Rs 9.68 lacs. It is only its top
most variant that falls in Duster category which otherwise is a true SUV. The
only competition to Maruti is Ford Eco Sport which is old now. Ford Eco Sport
also tries hard to fit in SUV credentials but it never had, due to its compact
dimensions.
Vitara Brezza just filled the perfect gap for Maruti.
Should you wait for Brezza?
You must wait for its Petrol variant to launch because it
will bring Brezza’s price down by atleast 1 lac rupees. As far as its diesel
variant is concerned – unless you are not fooling yourself by looking Brezza as
an SUV you can wait for it as long as your dealer asks.
