Father forgive them, for they do not know what they do

We live in the world where principle of 'give and take' not only dominate the economy and business but also inter-personal relationship. It is not an unusual human behaviour to involve with those people, who are stranger to us. In this structure of society our deeds are ‘echo’ of our good work which brings good things in return and is same with its opposite. Exception always exists though, many time in return of our good deeds we may face something bad we ever expected as it depends on the person next to you. You cannot ask a lion not to kill you simply because you do not favor violence. However, there is no exception with bad deeds as it always brings worst in return. It is all natural.

Doing good in return of something good is very easy, but real goodness can only be judged if someone is able to do good in return of some ill behavior. Society we live in, keeps on teaching forgiveness and being good to everyone but, in practicality within the society we always observe philosophy of 'Tit for Tat'. This philosophy fed our ego so we adopt it rather easily. Thinking spirituality with ego is like dreaming about sun in dark night, as only one of them can be at a time.

Our nature plays a significant role in our return behavior. History is full of saints who forgave even those who killed them. Jesus last words on cross is called as, "The Word of Forgiveness”. Jesus' prayed for forgiveness for those who crucified him.

Jesus said, "Father forgive them, for they do not know what they do".

'Kabir' the renowned mystic, too support that behavior is result of our nature; we are capable to deal with the situation either softly or harshly in whichever way we wish. He said,

"Sant Na Chhode Santai, Je Kotik Mile Asant; Chandan Bhujangaa Baithiyaa, Tau Seetalta Na Tajant."

"A holy man won’t become unholy in the company of innumerable wicked people. A sandalwood tree won’t lose its cool in spite of many snakes staying there."

If you want to be good and practice for true transformation then no one can change your mind. Your consciousness will never permit you to lose your principles. While leading spiritual life you become capable to understand that a difference does exist among people. One should not get affected by other's behavior, rather she/he should accept it so that it will not affect her/his own thinking. A parable depicts the both, accepting nature of other and holding your true nature.

"One morning in the vicinity of a dense tree, after meditation, the old man opened his eyes and saw a scorpion floating helplessly in the water. As the scorpion was closer to the tree, the old man quickly stretched himself out on one of the long roots that branched out into the river and reached out to rescue the drowning creature. As soon as he touched the scorpion, it stung him. Instinctively the man withdrew his hand. A minute later, after he had regained his balance, he stretched himself out again on the roots to save the scorpion. This time the scorpion stung him so badly with its poisonous tail that his hand became swollen and bloody and his face contorted with pain.

At that moment, a passerby saw the old man stretched out on the roots struggling with the scorpion and shouted: "Hey, stupid old man, what's wrong with you? Only a fool would risk his life for the sake of an ugly, evil creature. Don't you know you could kill yourself trying to save that ungrateful scorpion?"

The old man turned his head. Looking into the stranger's eyes, he said calmly, "My friend, just because it is the scorpion's nature to sting, that does not change my nature to save."

One can practically observe that, it is only the tree gets with fruits people start throwing stones on it.
